Devils' Franchise-Record Streak Snapped Despite Valiant 4-1 Rally

Photo: Andrew MacLean The New Jersey Devils suffered their first regulation loss at home this season Saturday night, falling 5-3 to the Philadelphia Flyers at Prudential Center. While the result ended their three-game win streak and allowed the Flyers to extend theirs, the loss carried historical weight: the Devils had tied a franchise record by earning a point in their first 10 consecutive home games (9-0-1) of the season before the defeat. Down 4-1, the Devils mounted a fierce comeback, fueled by a power-play goal from Timo Meier and a stunning, highlight-reel solo effort from Dawson Mercer to pull within a single goal. Though the furious third-period rally, which saw numerous chances and power-play opportunities, ultimately fell short, the team celebrated Simon Nemec becoming only the fifth defenseman in club history to score six goals in a single calendar month. New Jersey Devils star Jack Hughes is back!

Devils' star Jack Hughes has been out the past 5 games due to a shoulder injury 2 weeks ago on November 3rd. He cut through a pair of defensemen on St. Louis, took a shot on goal, then crashed into the end boards. Hughes made a brief return to the ice, eventually leaving for good.

Unfortunately, the Devils lost against St. Louis with a 4-1 score.

"It's tough," Curtis Lazar said after their loss in St. Louis. "Look at the start he's had. I'm not going to lie, we were a little dejected when it happened. But, again, you've got to kind of turn the page when you realize he's not coming back."

During this game, the Devils were also without their captain, Nico Hischier, due to an upper-body injury. He's been out of the lineup since October 27th when New Jersey played against the Buffalo Sabres.

"Great second-effort goal around the front of the net," Ruff said. "I thought that goal got us going, and we had a lot of good zone time after that."

Today, November 17th, the Devils announced that Jack Hughes was out on the ice for practice! After 2 weeks of suffering an upper-body injury, the star is back and can hopefully play in tomorrow's game against the New York Rangers.

Hughes will be a game time decision to play tomorrow night.
