Devils Grind Out 2-1 Win in Utah to Secure Second Straight

Photo: Andrew MacLean The Devils continued their climb toward consistency on Friday night, edging out the Utah Mammoth 2-1 at the Delta Center for their second consecutive victory. In a matchup between two teams that have spent December alternating between wins and losses, it was the Devils who finally found the winning formula on the road. After Daniil But put Utah ahead early with a power-play marker, New Jersey’s veterans took over. Connor Brown leveled the score in the second period with a clinical finish, and Stefan Noesen proved to be the hero in the third, burying a gritty power-play goal to seal the result. Backed by another stellar performance in net from Jacob Markstrom, the Devils successfully neutralized Utah's late-game pressure, turning a back-and-forth month into a promising winning streak. New Jersey Devils star Jack Hughes is back!

Devils' star Jack Hughes has been out the past 5 games due to a shoulder injury 2 weeks ago on November 3rd. He cut through a pair of defensemen on St. Louis, took a shot on goal, then crashed into the end boards. Hughes made a brief return to the ice, eventually leaving for good.

Unfortunately, the Devils lost against St. Louis with a 4-1 score.

"It's tough," Curtis Lazar said after their loss in St. Louis. "Look at the start he's had. I'm not going to lie, we were a little dejected when it happened. But, again, you've got to kind of turn the page when you realize he's not coming back."

During this game, the Devils were also without their captain, Nico Hischier, due to an upper-body injury. He's been out of the lineup since October 27th when New Jersey played against the Buffalo Sabres.

"Great second-effort goal around the front of the net," Ruff said. "I thought that goal got us going, and we had a lot of good zone time after that."

Today, November 17th, the Devils announced that Jack Hughes was out on the ice for practice! After 2 weeks of suffering an upper-body injury, the star is back and can hopefully play in tomorrow's game against the New York Rangers.

Hughes will be a game time decision to play tomorrow night.
