DeMelo Scores Go-Ahead Goal Late, Jets Defeat Kraken 2-1

The hero of the night was Dylan DeMelo, who scored the game-winning goal in his 600th NHL game, capping off a remarkable individual milestone with a moment of pure elation. Mark Scheifele had also scored for Winnipeg, and Matty Beniers put up the one tally for Seattle. Despite a valiant effort from Joey Daccord, who stopped 34 of 36 shots faced, the Kraken were unable to hold on to a 1-1 tie in the final seconds.    The Columbus Blue Jackets lost 4-2 against the Kraken in Seattle at the Climate Pledge Arena on Sunday, January 28th. It was a great win for Seattle after their overtime loss against the St. Louis Blues on Friday, January 26th.

   Seattle strikes first for the 1-0 lead - Jordan Eberle scored on the power play. A wrist shot from Oliver Bjorkstrand coming from the right circle hit Zach Werenski's stick, then redirected in on Eberle at the post on the right. Jared McCann pushed it to a 2-0 lead, taking the pass from Eberle on a 2-on-1. Only seconds later, Eberle strikes another on the power play. Eberle picked up a rebound of McCann's shot from the top of the crease. The final score of the first period was 3-0.


   The second period was completely scoreless... the score staying at 3-0.


   Yegor Chinakhov strikes the first goal for the Blue Jackets. Damon Severson cut off Vince Dunn's stretch pass in the neutral zone and led to a rush, passing the puck to Chinakhov for a wrist shot from the left circle at the top. Chinakhov scores another, his 14th goal of the season, beating Joey Daccord blocker side. With 13 seconds remaining in the final frame, Brandon Tanev strikes the empty net to wrap it up with a 4-2 score.
