Two Wins Tucked Away: Mercer Powers Devils to Victory Ahead of Home Opener

  Photo: Andrew MacLean The New Jersey Devils survived a chaotic, late-game flurry in Columbus to secure their second straight victory on Monday night, defeating the Blue Jackets 3-2 to cap off their opening road trip. The star of the dramatic finish was forward Dawson Mercer, who netted a pair of goals—including the decisive empty-net marker—that momentarily gave the Devils a two-goal cushion before the Blue Jackets scored with 20 seconds left to keep the tension high until the final horn. Having collected four points out of a possible six on the road, New Jersey now turns its focus to the familiar roar of the Prudential Center crowd. The team finally heads home to Newark, where they will open their home slate on Thursday night with a pivotal early-season clash against the formidable Florida Panthers. Connor Bedard Injury Update - Hit From Brendan Smith on 1/5/24

 







   The Blackhawks played in Jersey on Friday, January 5th. The game was more fights and penalties than goals after Connor Bedard took a hit from Brendan Smith. The Devils did end up winning with a 4-2 score in the third after the Blackhawks were in the lead with a 2-1 score.


   Soon into the first period, Connor Bedard took a big hit from Brendan Smith. Bedard had left for the remainder of the game and no updates.. the rest of the game was full of constant fights and penalties, and a few other players also went to the locker room.

   Nico Hischier went to the locker room soon after Bedard due to a hit by Connor Murphy, but he returned in the second period. Jack Hughes and Nick Foligno left the game later on - no updates on Jack Hughes, but Nick Foligno has a fractured left finger while Connor Bedard has a fractured jaw. Both Bedard and Foligno are on injured reserve.
