Edmonton Oilers extend their win streak to 14 games, 4-1 against the Columbus Blue Jackets 1/23/24

   The Blue Jackets played against the Oilers in Edmonton at Rogers Place on Tuesday, January 23rd. The Edmonton Oilers now have a 14-game win streak and plan to continue the streak on Thursday when the Chicago Blackhawks visit the Oilers at Rogers Place.

   Edmonton strikes first - Warren Foegele opens the scoring on the power play with his 10th goal of the season. Dmitri Voronkov tied the game up at 1-1, capitalizing on a Sam Gagner turnover from behind the Oilers' net and passing it out to Kent Johnson in the front for a give-and-go, leaving Stuart Skinner to dive across his crease.


   In the middle frame, Connor McDavid thought he got Edmonton a 2-1 lead... the Blue Jackets successfully challenged that the goal by McDavid was offsides. The Blue Jackets and the Oilers stay locked at 1-1.


   Evander Kane finds the rebound, giving Edmonton the 2-1 lead this time. Kane found the rebound after Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had hit the post. Connor McDavid made it a 3-1 lead just 55 seconds after Kane's goal. McDavid's shot went over Elvis Merzlikins after he had been knocked into the ice, and the puck went into the net. Dylan Holloway strikes his second of the season, making it a 4-1 lead with four minutes to go.



Notes:

- Elvis Merzlikins made his third straight start

- Merzlikins made 20 saves for Columbus

- Stuart Skinner made 27 saves, setting a franchise record with his 11th straight win... passing Grant Fuhr (1985-86)

- Zach Hyman leads all Oilers with 10 goals during their 13-game streak

- Corey Perry did not play in this game and hopes to make his Edmonton debut on Saturday against the Nashville Predators

- Connor McDavid leads the Oilers with 19 points (six goals, 13 assists) over their win streak

- Columbus has lost 10 of their past 13 games

- The Oilers are the 7th team in NHL history with a win streak of 14 or more games
