NY Islanders win their first under Patrick Roy, 3-2, against Dallas 1/21/24

   The Dallas Stars played against the New York Islanders at the UBS Arena on Sunday, January 21st. It was a close win for either team - both played really well and ended up going into overtime, where the Islanders took the win. After a 4-game losing streak, it was a good win for New York.

   The Islanders strike first - Alex Romanov scored early in the first period, beating Scott Wedgewood short side from the left circle. The Islanders hold the one-goal lead all the way through the remainder of the first frame.


   Jason Robertson tied the game up 1-1, scoring his 16th goal of the season. Joe Pavelski passed the puck to Robertson, he put it between his legs before shooting and getting the puck past Sorokin. Nils Lundkvist gets one in with a one-timer from the right point, going through the legs of Pavelski and right under the glove of Sorokin - 4:52 remaining in the second period.


   Hudson Fasching ties up the game in the third period, 2-2, with his third goal of the season. Noah Dobson shot the puck from the right point and it deflected in off Fasching's leg. The Stars and Islanders head into overtime with a 2-2 score.


   Bo Horvat wins it for the New York Islanders at 4:19 in overtime.



Notes:

- The New York Islanders won their first game under Patrick Roy

- Craig Smith didn't return due to an upper-body injury



"We're just learning on the fly right now, and I thought we did a great job tonight. I thought everyone had a spark tonight." Mathew Barzal spoke to the media after the game about the Islanders' 3-2 win against Dallas.
