Two Wins Tucked Away: Mercer Powers Devils to Victory Ahead of Home Opener

  Photo: Andrew MacLean The New Jersey Devils survived a chaotic, late-game flurry in Columbus to secure their second straight victory on Monday night, defeating the Blue Jackets 3-2 to cap off their opening road trip. The star of the dramatic finish was forward Dawson Mercer, who netted a pair of goals—including the decisive empty-net marker—that momentarily gave the Devils a two-goal cushion before the Blue Jackets scored with 20 seconds left to keep the tension high until the final horn. Having collected four points out of a possible six on the road, New Jersey now turns its focus to the familiar roar of the Prudential Center crowd. The team finally heads home to Newark, where they will open their home slate on Thursday night with a pivotal early-season clash against the formidable Florida Panthers. Tampa Bay Wins With A 3-2 Score In OT, 1/9/24

 






   The Lightning played against the LA Kings in Tampa on Tuesday, January 9th. Tampa Bay won in overtime with a 3-2 score. This was a good win for the Lightning after their 7-3 loss against the Boston Bruins on January 6th.

   The first frame was a completely scoreless period, 0-0.


   Phillip Danault strikes first, this being his eighth goal of the season. Matt Roy scores a few minutes after Danault, LA in the lead by two. Anthony Cirelli scores - the goal ended up not counting due to goaltender interference. The final score was 2-0.


   Tyler Motte scores the first goal for Tampa Bay, this being his third goal of the season. Brandon Hagel ties up the game 2-2. The Lightning and Kings end up going into overtime.


   Nick Perbix wins it with his first of the season for the Lightning in overtime!
