Devils' Franchise-Record Streak Snapped Despite Valiant 4-1 Rally

Photo: Andrew MacLean The New Jersey Devils suffered their first regulation loss at home this season Saturday night, falling 5-3 to the Philadelphia Flyers at Prudential Center. While the result ended their three-game win streak and allowed the Flyers to extend theirs, the loss carried historical weight: the Devils had tied a franchise record by earning a point in their first 10 consecutive home games (9-0-1) of the season before the defeat. Down 4-1, the Devils mounted a fierce comeback, fueled by a power-play goal from Timo Meier and a stunning, highlight-reel solo effort from Dawson Mercer to pull within a single goal. Though the furious third-period rally, which saw numerous chances and power-play opportunities, ultimately fell short, the team celebrated Simon Nemec becoming only the fifth defenseman in club history to score six goals in a single calendar month.    Nashville opened the scoring - Michael McCarron gave the Predators the 1-0 lead with a one-timer. A dump-in by Roman Josi's shot bounced off the post behind the net and popped out into the slot, and McCarron was able to strike his seventh goal of the season. Philip Tomasino drove towards the net, getting the puck over Mads Sogaard's glove, and gave Nashville the 2-0 lead. Tipping in a shot from the point by Dante Fabbro, Yakov Trenin got his first goal in 17 games with a minute left and the Predators lead 3-0.

The Senators start getting on the board... Drake Batherson scores the first goal for Ottawa. Batherson took a cross-crease pass coming from Brady Tkachuk and tucked the puck around Juuse Saros' left pad. Mathieu Joseph passed the puck to Tim Stutzle on the rush and beat Saros' glove side with a great wrist shot. After winning a puck battle off the face-off with 2:50 remaining in the middle frame, Brady Tkachuk gets one past Saros with a snap shot high blocker and ties it 3-3.

The entire third period remained a 3-3 score... heading into overtime.

Claude Giroux strikes from the goal line at 1:24 in overtime, wrapping up the game with a 4-3 win for Ottawa.
