Two Wins Tucked Away: Mercer Powers Devils to Victory Ahead of Home Opener

The star of the dramatic finish was forward Dawson Mercer, who netted a pair of goals—including the decisive empty-net marker—that momentarily gave the Devils a two-goal cushion before the Blue Jackets scored with 20 seconds left to keep the tension high until the final horn. Having collected four points out of a possible six on the road, New Jersey now turns its focus to the familiar roar of the Prudential Center crowd. The team finally heads home to Newark, where they will open their home slate on Thursday night with a pivotal early-season clash against the formidable Florida Panthers.    The Canucks played against the Blue Jackets in Columbus on Monday, January 15th. The Canucks had an unfortunate loss against the Blue Jackets - they have been on a 5-game win streak and definitely had a great chance of winning in this game.

   J.T. Miller gives the Canucks the lead early in the first period! Yegor Chinakhov scores, tying up the game 1-1 - Conor Garland nets one and gets Vancouver right back in the lead. The final score of the first period was 2-1.


   Dmitri Voronkov ties the game back up, 2-2 - Elias Pettersson answers back, getting the Canucks a one-goal lead. 3-2 was the final score of the middle frame.


   Dmitri Voronkov scores his second of the night and his ninth of the season - tying the game 3-3, being the only goal in the third period - they go to overtime, then a shootout!
