Point Earned, Streak Secured: Devils Outlast Penguins 2-1 in SO Thriller

Evander Kane scores a hat trick in Oilers' 5-3 win against the Anaheim Ducks, 2/9/24

   The Edmonton Oilers played against the Ducks in Anaheim at the Honda Center on Friday, February 9th. Evander Kane scored his eighth career hat trick, leading the way to a 5-3 win for the Oilers. It was a great win for Edmonton after their 16-game streak that could've broken the record of the longest streak had ended against the Vegas Golden Knights.

   Cam Fowler started the scoring late in the first period with 1:20 remaining. Fowler scored on the power play with a wrist shot that went through traffic to give Anaheim the lead.


   Tying up the game at 10:49 in the middle frame - Evander Kane stuck his 16th goal of the season with a wrist shot at the bottom of the right circle. Bringing back the Ducks lead, Ryan Strome scores his seventh goal of the season. Leo Carlsson passed the puck to Strome, he took a no-look pass and shot it past Calvin Pickard's left pad. Kane strikes again to tie the game back up, 2-2, recording his eighth multi-goal game since joining Edmonton. Kane scored with a wrist shot through the five-hole coming from the slot off a pass by Leon Draisaitl.


   Ryan Strome gave the lead back to the Ducks once again early in the third period. Strome scored on the power play with a wrist shot at the bottom of the left circle. Zach Hyman tied the game back up, tapping the puck into an open net after Connor McDavid made a backdoor pass. Leon Draisaitl gave the Oilers the 4-3 lead on the power play with 9:51 left to play. Later into the final frame, Evander Kane scores his third goal of the game to get his eighth career hat trick and wrap it up with a 5-3 final.




Notes:

-  Evander Kane recorded his fifth hat trick with the Oilers... he tied Ryan Smyth and Esa Tikkanen for seventh-most in franchise history.

- Connor McDavid extended his point streak to five games after he had three assists in this game (11 points; five goals, six assists)

- Connor McDavid has a 12-game point streak against the Anaheim Ducks (nine goals, 20 assists)

- Leon Draisaitl had a goal and an assist

- Calvin Pickard made 24 saves for Edmonton

- The Oilers have scored 20 goals in three wins against Anaheim this season

- Adam Henrique increased his point streak to seven games (11 points; four goals, seven assists)

- Max Jones made his return after missing the past 12 games due to an upper-body injury.

- Ryan Strome scored two goals... Cam Fowler had a goal and an assist

- John Gibson made 19 saves before he ended up leaving after the first two periods due to a lower-body injury... Lukas Dostal made eight saves after replacing Gibson.
