Point Earned, Streak Secured: Devils Outlast Penguins 2-1 in SO Thriller

The New Jersey Devils ultimately prevailed in the shootout, defeating the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-1 to secure their second consecutive victory and extend their perfect season-opening home winning streak to seven games. The Devils' win was anchored by netminder Jake Allen, who stopped a stunning 33 of 34 shots through regulation and overtime. Across the ice, the resilient Penguins earned a crucial point, thanks to rookie Arturs Silovs—who turned away 23 of 24 shots while holding the Devils' potent offense in check, an impressive feat for an injury-riddled squad missing six key players. Tristan Jarry leads all goalies in the NHL with his 6 shutouts of the season, Penguins win 3-0 against the Winnipeg Jets 2/6/24

   The Penguins defeated the Winnipeg Jets with a 3-0 score on Tuesday, February 6th. Tristan Jarry recorded his sixth shutout of the season and the 19th of his career... now leading all goalies in the NHL with the most shutouts this season.

   At 12:44 in the first period, Kris Letang puts the Penguins in the lead. Letang scored on a backhand from the slot, getting the puck past Connor Hellebuyck. The remainder of the period stays at the 1-0 score.


   After Penguins forward Noel Acciari was helped into the locker room after taking a hit from Jets defenseman Brenden Dillon - Jeff Carter gets Pittsburgh in a 2-0 lead. Carter grabbed up a loose puck off a shot by Erik Karlsson that was deflected by Lars Eller and shot the puck around Connor Hellebuyck's left pad. Bryan Rust tapped in a loose puck in the crease that came from a backhand shot by Jake Guentzel... Sidney Crosby got the secondary assist that extended his point streak to eight games (five goals and five assists).


   Mark Scheifele cut the Penguins lead, 3-1, but Pittsburgh challenged it. The goal was determined offsides, no goal. The Penguins wrapped it up with a 3-0 win!

- Tristan Jarry made 23 saves in his sixth shutout of the season and his 19th of his career.

- 500 NHL Games for Jake Guentzel

- 800 NHL Games as a Head Coach for Mike Sullivan

- Kris Letang had reached the 30-point plateau for the 14th time in his career. He is the 21st defenseman in NHL history and the second active to reach 14 or more 30-point seasons.

- Jake Guentzel became the 21st player from his draft class (77th overall in 2013) to play 500 career games. His 219 career goals entering his 500th are the most among all 2013 draftees through their milestone game.

- Noel Acciari did not return for the remainder of the game

- Connor Hellebuyck made 24 saves for Winnipeg



Tristan Jarry on the Penguins' 3-0 win, his 19th career shutout, and the team's current position: "We all did the right thing and I think that gave us the upper hand tonight - Okay, obviously, but we're not in the position we want to be in... We want to be in a playoff position and that's going to be the goal at the end of the season - Every point that we can get helps us to that."
