Bruins Lose 5-2, Artemi Panarin Scores 7th Career Hat Trick 3/21/24

   The Bruins ended up with a tough 5-2 loss on Thursday, March 21st when they took on the New York Rangers at the TD Garden. Boston had a three-game winning streak prior that came after a 5-1 loss against the St. Louis Blues on Monday, March 11th. However, it was a fortunate victory for the Rangers after they took a 4-2 loss against the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday. Artemi Panarin scored a hat trick, his seventh career hat trick, in New York's win. Both Jake DeBrusk and Justin Brazeau scored for Boston.

   At 11:56 of the first period, Jake DeBrusk put the Bruins in a 1-0 lead with his 18th goal of the season and his fourth in the past six games. After Jonathan Quick stopped two shots in front of the net by Trent Frederic, DeBrusk got the second rebound when it popped out to him in the slot and sent a wrister past Quick.


   Artemi Panarin tied it 1-1 to put the Rangers on the board at 12:02 of the middle frame when he glided the puck five-hole past Jeremy Swayman after grabbing up a loose puck at the right circle on the edge, inside. With 34 seconds left in the second period, Panarin struck his second of the night and his 40th of the season to put New York in front. His centering pass bounced off Jake DeBrusk and then went through Swayman's legs.


   Early into the third, Justin Brazeau tied it 2-2 for his fourth goal of the season with a tap-in off a shot from in front by Brad Marchand... 40 seconds later, Adam Fox put New York back in front at the right face-off circle, going top shelf. Later into the final frame, Mika Zibanejad scored on the empty net and Artemi Panarin completed his hat trick after he struck the empty net for the 5-2 final.




Jeremy Swayman on the loss and where he's looking to still grow himself: "I have no doubt in this team, there's no doubt in this locker room. And again, when we lose, when we win - there are opportunities to grow, experiences gained," - "Everywhere, baby, everywhere. I think there's a lot of opportunity for that and I'm excited to get better."


Hampus Lindholm on the loss against the Rangers and what the Bruins can learn from it: "I think when it is at its tightest and when the game is kind of way into different ways, we can be a little bit more poised with the puck there and make those plays, kind of make a difference - maybe make that simple play get deep behind them. I think me included, we can just be a little smarter and keep the momentum our way, make them have to kind of chase it a little bit more. I think that's what we can learn from this game here."


Jake DeBrusk on the loss against New York: "Yeah, obviously it was a disappointing performance. I think that we had a good first period, and then the other push in the second, we just didn't really answer. Give them full credit - they won the majority of the battles it felt like tonight and they deserve the win."




Notes:

- Jeremy Swayman made a total of 26 saves for Boston, and Jonathan Quick made a total of 24 saves for New York.

   Quick (391st NHL win) ties Ryan Miller for the most in NHL history by a United States-born goaltender.

- Justin Brazeau had a two-point night, recording a goal and an assist. This had been his second consecutive multi-point game, starting when he scored two goals in the Bruins' 6-2 victory against the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday.

- Both Mika Zibanejad and Adam Fox had a goal and an assist.

   Fox's 13th goal of the season in his 60th game is an NHL career-high for him... scoring 12 last season in 82 games. During a six-game point streak, Fox has a total of eight points (three goals, five assists).
