Super Mario: From Prodigy to Legend

Graphic: Genevive Oliver There have been great players for the Pittsburgh Penguins, and then there has been Mario Lemieux. From the impossible reach of his stick to his effortless, balletic stride, 'Le Magnifique' wasn't just a force of nature—he was a work of art on ice. His time in Pittsburgh wasn't just about piling up goals and assists; it was an incredible journey of dizzying highs, a battle with a life-threatening illness, and then, a truly triumphant comeback that carved his place as an eternal Penguins legend. His story is one of unrivaled greatness on the ice and a fierce, unwavering loyalty to the city that loved him. The Arrival of Le Magnifique: The Savior of a City The hype around Mario Lemieux started almost before he even got here. In the mid-1980s, the Pittsburgh Penguins were a punchline—a franchise teetering on the brink of irrelevance. Their arena was a ghost town, their roster a collection of misfits. Matt Rempe Out of the Lineup for Tuesday Against the Winnipeg Jets, Healthy Scratch

Matt Rempe served the four-game suspension he received due to the rough elbow to the head to Jonas Siegenthaler on the New Jersey Devils when the New York Rangers played the Devils on Monday, March 11th at the Madison Square Garden. New Jersey took the loss, and the Rangers won 3-1.

The Rangers look forward to taking the ice against the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday, March 19th at the Madison Square Garden, where Rempe was expected to be making his return. However, Rempe will be left as a healthy scratch.

Without Matt Rempe during his four-game suspension, the Rangers won three out of the four games. They defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 1-0, the Pittsburgh Penguins 7-4, and the New York Islanders 5-2. New York took a 6-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the second game Rempe was out for, breaking the possibility for a four-game win streak. With those three wins, head coach Peter Laviolette went for sticking with the same group that secured the three victories. It was assured that Matt Rempe will be playing again down the line.

"We now have 13 forwards available, and so for me, the 13 forwards here, I do want to keep them all in play," Laviolette said after the Rangers morning skate. "So I am going to make some decisions down the stretch here, just to make sure that guys are in the lineup. I do think Rempe has played well, he's brought certain things to our team, and he's played a physical role. He's played the game well and he'll be back in there."

Peter Laviolette on the current lineup: "Just coming off of the last game and the way we played, specifically how that bottom six played, just found it was best to come back with the same lineup. I am going to move guys around, it won't be because somebody's getting scratched. It'll just be because we're going to keep 13 players moving and get ourselves playoff-ready."
