SWAY IS HERE TO STAY: Bruins Sign Jeremy Swayman To An 8-Year Contract Extension

On Sunday, October 6th, the Boston Bruins General Manager, Don Sweeney, announced they signed star goaltender Jeremy Swayman to an 8-year contract extension. It had been news we were waiting for, whether he was going to be staying or signing with a new team. It was already heartbreaking enough when the Bruins traded their other star goaltender, Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators... So, it's good to see Swayman is staying. The contract goes through the 2031-32 season with an annual NHL cap hit of $8.25 million.

Jeremy Swayman had been originally selected by the Boston Bruins in the fourth round, 111th overall, of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.

The star goaltender has played in a total of 132 career NHL games, all with the Bruins, displaying an overall record of 79-33-15 with a 2.34 goals-against average and a .919 save percentage. Swayman ranks fifth in franchise history in goals against average and fourth in save percentage.

In the 2021-2022 season, Swayman was named to the 2021-22 NHL All-Rookie Team after he ranked first among rookie goaltenders with a minimum of 25 games played in wins: 23, goals against average: 2.41, and save percentage: .914.

Among all active NHL goaltenders with a minimum of 25 games played during the 2023-24 season, Swayman ranked in the top 10 in goals against average: 8th, and save percentage: T-5th.

The 25-year-old goaltender was selected by the All-Star Fan Vote to the 2024 NHL All-Star Game. In February of 2024, he tallied a career-high 43 saves in the team's 4-3 shootout victory against the Dallas Stars.

During the 2023-24 NHL season, Jeremy Swayman appeared in a total of 44 games with Boston, compiling an overall record of 25-10-8 with a 2.35 goals against average and a .916 save percentage. He had also recorded a 2.15 goals against average and a .933 save percentage in 12 playoff games.
